Uganda coalition of the ICC criticises Museveni’s attack on ICC

BY NKONGE I KAGGWA The Ugandan Coalition of the International Criminal Court (UCICC) has said a recent statement made by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on the court’s treatment of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, should not be left isolated because it was meant to tarnish the image of the ICC by portraying a negative image of its work. Addressing the country during its 52nd independence anniversary at Kololo independence grounds on 9th October this year, President Museveni called on African leaders to “review their relationship with the ICC”. World parliament calls for world summit on Ebola pandemic

By Nkonge I Kaggwa The President of the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) has called for a special summit involving world leaders to discuss the Ebola pandemic. Presiding over proceedings of the IPU during its 131st Assembly now taking place in Geneva, IPU president Ms Rebecca Kadaga said it’s timely for such a summit to be held most especially when a crisis like this is happening. Kadaga who is also the Speaker of the Uganda Parliament, said: “World leaders meet on economic and other issues normally. UN to scrutinize Ugandan and TZ human rights records

By Staff Writer Two East African countries of Uganda and Tanzania will be among seventeen countries worldwide whose human rights record will come up for scrutiny next week at the headquarters of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland. The seventeen states will have their human rights records examined during the twelfth session of the Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review Working Group to be held in Geneva from 3 to 14 October at the Palais des Nations. UN chiefs bemoan curtailing of freedom of expression

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova have all bemoaned emerging new threats that pose formidable challenges to freedom of expression.
